There has been a rebirth of gyms across the country in recent times. There are been seven active gyms in the country at present. They are the Stanley Couch Gym, Bruisin Gym, Heavy Metal Gym, Hard Knocks Gym, Job Walters Gym and G4S Gym.

Although there has been a rebirth of gyms, the activity on the boxing scene has decreased over the last decade. And Jamaica, usually a forced to be reckoned with regionally, has been struggling to have full participation at the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Championships.

In 2006 only a seven-member team represented the country at the Caribbean Amateur Boxing Championships in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
