Jamaica 50 Launches One Million Pins Initiative
Against the backdrop of Jamaica’s National Senior Athletic Trials Jamaica 50 Secretariat launched its prestigious One Million Pins Initiative, a commemorative lapel pin of pride that symbolizes love and respect for country and commitment to the tenets of the National Pledge.
“The One Million Pins Initiative is a global movement that seeks to rally Jamaicans at home and abroad to wear this ‘pin of pride’,” said Robert Bryan, Project Director of Jamaica 50.
“We have a population of 2.8 million and the Diaspora is estimated to be nearly as large, we want to use this opportunity – our 50th anniversary, our Golden Jubilee – to try and unify our beloved country” Bryan continues.
The pin initiative was launched at the Opening Ceremony of the National Senior Athletics Trials at the National Stadium on Friday evening, June 29, at which time pins were presented to Prime Minister the Most Hon. Portia Simpson and Mr. Andrew Holness, Leader of the Opposition by Minister of Youth and Culture, Hon. Lisa Hanna. Other officials, including former Prime Ministers, Hon. P.J. Patterson and Hon. Edward Seaga were also presented with their Pin of Pride.
The ‘pin of pride’ is attractively designed using the Jamaica 50 logo, raised and engraved, and comes in four exquisite finishes – gold die struck; coloured cloisonné; iron enamel antique and gold and green enamel. The pins are collector’s items, neatly package and priced at J$700.00 each.
